| dc.description | The magnitude (ML) 6.2 earthquake of 1946 June 26d 12h 34m 39s.7 U.T., with an epicentre at 43°.18S 171°.68E, near Lake Coleridge, is the largest known event in the Central Seismic Region of New Zealand. It was felt over the greater part of the South Island, and caused minor structural damage to homesteads in the Upper Rakaia basin, and at the Lake Coleridge hydro- electric power station. There were also numerous landslides and changes to watercourses. It was preceded by two foreshocks and followed by numerous aftershocks, the largest of which had a magnitude of 5.8.
