    Abstract
The response of bridge decks supported on elastomeric or a combination of elastomeric and lead-rubber bearings is computed and compared with the response of a bridge deck monolithically connected to piers designed to have a ductile behaviour. A study of the sensitivity of bridge response to changes in geometry was made using the El Centro 1940 N-S earthquake component. The geometrical changes covered a range of uniform pier heights, a range of number of spans.
