Shaking table tests of a model gravity retaining wall are described. The tests were designed to check the validity of the simple analytical model of wall behaviour proposed by Elms and Richards in a companion paper. The results show that the wall translates outwards in a stepwise fashion under strong shaking as predicted by the analytical model, and that with one minor exception the assumptions underlying the model appear correct.en-US
