    Abstract
Rocking foundations can offer significant benefits both in terms of seismic performance and reduced embodied carbon. This paper applies a displacement-based design procedure to achieve a rocking foundation for a multi-storey apartment building and then analyses the performance using both displacement-based assessment and nonlinear time history analysis. The seismic performance and embodied carbon are compared to a conventionally designed building.
