    Abstract
A key recommendation from the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission was that there should be “greater cooperation and dialogue between geotechnical and structural engineers” to help improve the seismic performance of buildings. This talk will explore how well this is working in current practice and what are some of the challenges. Some current conventions will be critically examined, and ideas for how practitioners might work together to achieve better outcomes for both clients and the public at-large will be presented.
